The Ol' Left-hander....1928-2007...bye Joe !

When I was a young boy growing up in Cincinnati, Ohio I was always a big Reds fan and listened to baseball games with my dad on the porch while he drank a beer and I just listened. Those days that the Reds would be on TV we'd even turn down the sound and turn on the radio just to hear the game. That is the kind of impact Joe Nuxhall and Marty Brennaman had on me as a little kid. I loved the way Joe and Marty called a game. Sure they rooted for the home team, but mostly they called it like is was, good or bad.

As I grew up and started playing sports, especially baseball, I became a "lefty". I pitched a lot in baseball all through the pee-wee leagues and then in high school. My dad would always call me the "oldlefthander", in reference to Joe Nuxhall. That is why I started to use this word for my website many years later. It was just something that sort of "defined" me and I thought it was cool.

Joe was always involved with many charity activities and always gave his time to anyone who would ask for it.

I never met Joe Nuxhall before but I felt like I knew him after listening to him all of those years as a kid growing up. And as Joe would say as he wrapped up a broadcast with Marty.......

"This is the Ol' Left-hander rounding third and heading for home..... Good night everyone!!"

Goodbye, Joe. Thanks for all of the fond memories.
